Walter Castillo is a self-taught artist from San Pedro who used Caye Caulker as his playground while growing up.
He began exploring Belize in his early teens and interacting with people from many various cultures, including Mayas, East Indians, Creoles, and Garinagu, with whom he resided from the age of 13 to 17. His use of brilliant colors and individuals who are so alive emerge through his paintings.
In 1990, he held his first successful exhibition in England, where he had the opportunity to meet many admirers of his art. His career as an international professional artist officially began at that point. After many years in the busy San Pedro, he relocated to a studio home in the quiet community of Bullettree Falls close to Cayo.
