Queen Elizabeth II has become the first British Monarch to serve for 70 years; for that purpose, the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is being celebrated on 6th February.
The four-day weekend has been announced by the UK government in regards to this celebration. For this milestone celebration, quite a series of initiatives have been taken by the UK government, along with other countries.
The reports have stated that there would be more than 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians participating in the Queen Jubilee celebration. Further, there are Pageants that will march on the street, arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival, and costume.
Among all the initiatives in regards to the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee celebration, Cayman Island Airshow has been the most intriguing as it is returning and becoming part after 20 years, almost two decades.
The last time when it was held, it got much attention from the audience as well as was greatly appreciated. It was considered to be a much adored and well-attended event by members of the community in the past, the authorities were hoping for the same or bigger response this time.
The show is being presented with the collaborative efforts of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Department of Tourism (DoT) as the Cayman is British Overseas Territory in the western Caribbean Sea encompassing three islands.
Cayman Island Airshow Schedule
The show has been scheduled for two days resulting in energetic and enthusiastic response from the audience, authorities and general public.
According to the schedule, the first airshow will be presented on Friday, 3rd June, when expert pilots will be performing aerobatics above Grand Cayman’s Public Beach.
The performance will be held in the afternoon, letting the general public have an opportunity to watch it. The Director of Tourism, Mr. Rosa Harris, expresses his thoughts by stating “The Air Show is another family-friendly event that will set the destination apart.”
The Cayman Air Show is considered a local celebration as Samuel Rose, Chair of the Steering Committee and Cabinet Secretary. He added that stakeholders were brought in to bring this show which is near and dear to the hearts of UK citizens, especially on Cayman island.
The show will then continue on the second day on Saturday, June 4th. The first day includes merely the aircraft aerobatics.
However, the second day will lead to a parachute display and the exhibition of aircraft. Further, the students and public would be allowed to meet the pilots and watch the aircrafts exhibition for free and openly. According to Director General of Civil Aviation Richard Smith, it is a unique and worth remembering moment for the kids and students to get to know aviation, especially those interested in joining this field.
The show is being presented with no ticket or expense, a more significant number of audience is being expected to watch the show.
This is quite a threat to security in order to manage that. The government has decided to restrict parking, so it will be accessible at Public Beach and Owen Roberts International Airport. The authorities ask the public to avail the free shuttle service from the parking area after parking their transport out there.
Food and Beverages
The two-day event will also include food and beverages for the general public. The Department of Tourism has reached out to food businesses to provide their services during the Platinum Jubilee to add more fun and colors to the show.
So, Why Was The Show Postponed?
The air show was much discussed and a much-awaited show. Due to past successes, it was a hot topic among UK audiences.
The people were anxiously waiting for it to be back after two decades. However, the CAA and DoT postponed the Cayman Island Air Show due to bad weather. It threatens the Air Show pilot’s and participants safety along with the general public gathered to watch it.
The forecast predicts thunderstorms and heavy rain on the scheduled days, which will continue the whole week. Friday, the show’s first day, is expected to be windy and rainy the entire day.
Therefore, the Grand Cayman Public Beach gathering with Aircraft in air will put the majority of the audience, along with pilots’ lives in immense danger. Besides the Air Show, the officials have stated not to cancel or postpone any other planned event of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The officials have not yet passed any statement regarding the schedule of the Cayman Island Air Show. The unpredictability of the weather is resulting in officials’ to struggle in making this event a success.
The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee is a massive celebration for the Royals, the commonwealth countries’ government, and public, along with other nations around the World.
