The Duo On the Mission Of Building a Country On Caribbean Island
Two men named Gareth Johnson and Marshall Mayer geared up back in 2018 aiming to buy land on Caribbean Island and be the founders of a new country.
Starting with fundraising by the crowd they were able to collect more than £200,000 and fulfilled their dream of a private island on the land of Caribbeans.
Owning land in cities might be an everyday talk for elites however thinking of being an owner of land in water is an idea that even rich people will have a hard time adapting Gareth and Marshall proved it to be possible by devising a smart plan that too not only for the privileged ones but for the whole world.
However, the two pledged that this was not just limited to fulfilling their dreams but they would turn this place into a spot for tourists. Not only this they assured that the amount accumulated as a profit will be for the people who desire to have one’s own private land on the waters of the Caribbean.
Coffee Cafe Country in Water
Tnotion came into existence within a year as the buddies were lucky to raise enough for a Coffe Island, a place with a geographic area of 1.2 acres on the shoreline of Belize. The place that looks like a shape of a coffee bean, was given the name “coffee caye”. The two decided to promote the island by attracting travelers by sharing profits.
As they posted about the success of the land bought they announced that the shares were available for the public to be bought and be an exclusive member of personal property. Further, Johnson said “Who hasn’t dreamed of making their own country? Particularly in a post-Trump, post-Brexit, Covid world. If a bunch of regular people can make this work, perhaps it can be a force for good,”
The foundation of the new country was laid which adhered to the rules stated as” principles of Islandia ” the text defines that coffee caye will have its independent identity represented with a national flag, the country’s anthem, and also the governing body. Not only this, investors can claim a digital ID to become citizens of it and enjoy the perks of the country with ownership. Doesn’t that sound cool? Being a member of a newly founded land that too on the water!
The initial idea stated that each share would amount to $3250 and the total number of investors to be 150. people could get their hands on as many as they want however each person would only be permitted to cast one democratic vote in the decisions.
“Let us buy an island ” also uploaded the look of the citizen card to tell people how the id for the country would look like which included complete details of the person to the date of expiry. The price of the card was stated to be $19.95.
Living on Coffe caye was almost similar to their home country except that it lacked an army and a navy.
But what after the dream was realized and the land was habited? Marshal(the cofounder) said after they passed the first phase that they had no idea they would come this far, thus they were clueless when people bought the idea and the concept became the reality.
Fruit of a 15-Year-Long Effort
The idea however did not emerge all of a sudden as the cofounders discussed how their thoughts crossed their minds 15 years back and they were slowly hustled to turn this into a reality.
The domain with the name letusbuyanisland.com was bought during the initial stages which clearly showed the seriousness to take forward the idea. They further said that this was not the first land bought on waters as before this another was bought for $180 000.
Before finalizing the decision to go for the land the cost of benzene locations was sought near the Philippines, Panama Malaysia, and Ireland, however, benzene was finalized.
The digital platform was given the name “let us build an island” which helped reach people all over the world with similar interests.
Soon after this they improvised on their plans and worked efficiently on a business model to give return to shareholders so that it could be reinvested. They sat together to list down the locations that could fulfill the idea of a fantasy private island for prospects.
The founder Johnson shared how his love for traveling and his ambition led to this idea. Being a founder of Young Pioneer Tours before “let’s buy to build an island” he was already skilled to guide tourists and let them discover scenic yet obscure locations such as North Korea, Syria, Transnistria, Abkhazia, and Nagorno-Karabakh. In early 2022 Mayer led a group of people both investors and noninvestors on a trip to the principles of Islandia. It was 15 minutes boat ride to the city of benzene.
The island is small enough that it only takes a few minutes to reach from one end of the Coffee caye to another, one side of the island is more of a beach with a shallow bay. One could enjoy the scenic view with ownership of the place. The place has been thus utilized as a camping area.
The other side of the island is full of mangrove trees which further enhances the beauty of the island. This vaguely shaped island offers a tour for an all-in-one package for entertainment. since Johnson could not join Mayer on the first tour to the island, Mayer planned to lead a 13-strong group tour very soon accompanied by both Mayer and johnson.
So if you are a beach person or have an interest in being a citizen of a country habited in water, you could avail yourself of this chance for the next tour with the co-founders and fulfill your dream of a private island.
